Things to Note:

Library Subscription vs. Paid Subscription

  • While the library subscription includes access to many areas of The New York Times, there are some features and sections reserved for paid subscribers.

  • Unfortunately you do not have access to the day's New York Times Crossword Puzzle and NYT Cooking apps, but you can access past puzzle and cooking content.

  • If you have questions about your access, please contact Customer Care at The New York Times directly.

What if I am already a subscriber to NYTimes.com?

  • Your personal subscription already gives you all of the access that you can get through the Library. If you have a personal subscription and you try to use a library redemption code, you will see a message that states: "It looks like you're already a subscriber. At this time, pre-existing Digital or Home Delivery subscribers are not eligible to receive gift subscriptions."

  • If you want to cancel your subscription to NYTimes.com and use the library's access, you will need to use a different email address since your existing email address is already associated with the NYTimes.com account created for your paid subscription and cannot be transferred.

There are some situations that will result in an error message:

  • You already have a NYTimes.com account set up and you try to login on the “Sign Up” screen

  • You try to login on the “Log In” screen and you don’t have an NYTimes.com account yet

  • You already have a personal, paid digital subscription to NYTimes.com associated with your email address

  • You currently have a redemption code activated (your 24-hour code is still active)
