CALLING ALL TEEN POETS!
The North Haven Memorial Library is pleased to announce our first ever Youth Poet Laureate Program!
About the Youth Poet Laureate
The title of Youth Poet Laureate is given to a North Haven teen (age 14-18) who has demonstrated poetic, academic, and artistic excellence within our community.
This individual will serve a two-year term as an ambassador participating in poetry workshops, public speaking engagements, and collaboration between North Haven's Adult Poet Laureate and the North Haven Memorial Library.
The Youth Poet Laureate will be selected by the Youth Poet Laureate Committee which has been appointed by the North Haven Memorial Library Board.

Eligibility and Application Requirements for North Haven's Youth Poet Laureate
Eligibility
To be considered, a nominee must be a resident of North Haven and be between 14-18 years old
Application
All nominees must submit the following information by Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 5:00 pm:

A signed copy of the program information form (see below)

A signed copy of The North Haven Youth Poet Laureate Application Form and Required Materials Sheet (see below)

Three original poems that showcase your content, craft, and voice

Please note: Submissions should be no more than 5 pages in length

A recommendation letter from an adult who is familiar with your writing, academic achievements, and/or community involvement

An artist statement: Introduce yourself! Tell us who you are and what poetry means to you

Your statement should be 250 words maximum

If applicable, please include a separate paragraph listing any publications, awards, community service, or work experience

Name and contact info of your legal guardian, unless you will be 18 years old by February 1, 2023

while paper copies can picked up at the Information Desk (1st Floor).

Completed applications and all accompanying documents may be emailed to poetlaureate@northhavenlibrary.net or returned, in person, to the Information Desk.
